Audition Information
The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago will hold
auditions for the annual Nutcracker on Sunday,
September 18. The audition will take place at 17
N. State Street, 19th floor. Dancers between 4
feet and 4 feet 5 inches will be held from 10:00
am-11:30 am. For dancers over 4 feet 5 inches,
the audition will be held from 12:00 pm-1:30 pm
for 5th year through advanced students and
2:00-4:00 for 1st through 4th year ballet
students. These auditions are a wonderful
experience for dancers even if they don’t make
the cut. The exposure to professional dancers
and other dancers like themselves is an
experience of a lifetime. For more information
call Carla Graham-White at 312-739-0120 ext. 17
or e-mail cgraham-white@joffrey.com. The Dance
Gallery faculty strongly encourages dancers to
participate in experiences such as this. Last
season the Dance Gallery boasted two dancers in
this cast! Another professional Nutcracker
experience can be found with Ballet Legere. That
audition will be held Saturday, August 20th at
the Park District of Forest Park, 7501 Harrison
St. Forest Park, IL 60130. Ages 4.5 and up with
a height under 45” are at 8:30 am, 46-52” at
9:30, 53-57” at 11:00, 58-61” at 12:30 and teen
through adult pointe and non-pointe roles at
2:00 pm. This Nutcracker runs December 13-18.
Several of our dancers have enjoyed performing
in this Nutcracker in the past. For more
information call 773-237-1874.
DANCE in Love
The Dance Gallery’s Christian dance company
DANCE IN LOVE is looking forward to another
exciting season of using our God given gifts in
the ways they are intended. A parent meeting for
new and returning dancers will take place
Saturday, September 17 at 2:00 pm in the Dance
Gallery waiting room. We will discuss upcoming
events and expectations at this meeting. Any
Dance Gallery students ages 7 or over, enrolled
in two or more hours per week are invited to
participate. There is no added fee for this
class.
About Placement of Our Dancers
The Dance Gallery faculty understands that it’s
fun to be in class with friends. However, we
maintain that the most important place to be is
where the student is learning at an appropriate
rate and is not in danger of injury. We care
deeply for our students and place them with care
in their levels. Please continue to have faith
in our experience which comes from years of
teaching and parenting. We will always try to
handle each situation with compassion and
honesty. Also, please feel free to contact any
of us with your concerns.
Senior Dance for Celebration
We all enjoy the senior dance in the Celebration
each year and it’s a special time for the
graduating seniors. Please understand that this
dance is a privilege for those dancers who have
remained serious, studying both ballet and jazz
throughout their high school years. This dance
typically is comprised of both elements. These
students have been enrolled in at least five
hours of dance consistently and we need to keep
the level of this performance at its current
level by requiring this of these dancers.
In Search of Scenery Volunteers
As many of you know, the Frank family is looking
to retire from their positions in the scenery
department with Katie now a Freshman at Butler.
Anyone interested in volunteering for this
exciting position please see Ms. Amy.
